Charming Positano

Yesterday (June 3) Kiley and I decided we wanted to do a day trip to Positano, Italy. This town is about a hour away from Naples if you drive – but we didn’t want to hire a driver or rent a car, so we took the train down to Salerno then hopped onto a ferry to Positano from there. It was a great opportunity to see the Amalfi Coast! This part of Italy is way more beautiful in real life compared to the photos I’ve seen. My own photos don’t do it any justice. The ferry stopped for a few minutes in Amalfi to drop off / pick up more passengers, then we were off to Positano!

I was immediately charmed by this seaside town. There’s a lot to look at and enjoy – the water, plenty of shops and restaurants, and the fantastic views! Kiley and I walked the beach a bit – we didn’t use our brains and forgot to bring our sandals and towels so we had to make do. The beach is a mix of sand and rocks – and it was kind of painful to walk on, so next time I’d definitely bring sandals or water shoes… but it was fun to stand in the water a bit. Kiley collected some sea glass.

We decided to go explore the little shops and restaurants. Positano is basically all incline. After a good workout for both our calves and our lung capacities, we stopped for lunch! Kiley got pizza again and I decided to go with gnocchi which ended up being a very good choice. We also finally got to try lemon spritzes – limoncello, Prosecco and sprite mixed together. DELICIOUS. Probably my new favorite summer drink – very refreshing!

We window shopped around for a while, and bumped into another Deaf woman who happened to be from New York! We chatted for a bit then parted ways. More walking and window shopping… then we got another lemon treat – a lemon slushy! That was also very good. Positano is a great place for people watching!

After a day full of sun and hills, we were pretty worn out so we caught a ferry back to Salerno. This ride was much less pleasant than the one earlier in the day because there wasn’t enough airflow in the boat and it was overcrowded. We did meet a group of deaf people from Spain though, so that was neat.

I would definitely love to come back to the Amalfi coast and explore more. Positano would be a great place for a relaxing vacation – beach, food, drinking, shopping…

We got back to Naples in the evening, and we were so tired we didn’t want to spend too much energy figuring out dinner so we had McDonald’s in the train station, lol. FYI it tastes just like American McDonald’s! But they did have some different things on their menu…

More later!
